Is it for me?

Have you completed the BCU UKCC level 1 course? Would you like to develop your coaching further? Would you like to be able to work unsupervised and in any craft on sheltered water? Do you hold at least one BCU 3* award? Yes? Then this is the next step.

Pre-requisites

The British Canoeing strictly requires that all students are registered prior to commencing the course. They will not allow non-registered participants to undertake the course.
You will need to register with either Canoe England, Canoe Wales, Canoe Scotland or Canoe Association of Northern Ireland by completing a CR Form.

Plus:

Hold BCU-UKCC Level 1 Coach Award or 'old scheme' BCU Level 2 Coach Award or above

Hold 3 Star in at least one discipline

Completed pre-course tasks in your Level 2 folder

You will need to bring your Level 2 folder and all your supporting paperwork with you (CR form, certificates etc.)

What we cover

This is a predominately practical course and many of our sessions will be out on the water. These practical sessions will be supported by some classroom based learning. The early part of the course will be spent developing you understanding of the coaching process with the latter looking at how to apply these techniques to you coaching. We will look at how people learn, different coaching styles, feedback techniques, how to make sessions engaging and enjoyable, how to structure effective teaching sessions and how to plan a series of development coaching session. We will use local flat water venues and simple moving water venues. At the end of the course you will receive an individualised action plan to aid your continued development.

During the week we will look at the following areas:

  • Risk Management

  • Group Management

  • Teaching Skills

  • Games

  • Supervisory Skills

  • Incident Management and accident procedure

  • Safety and Rescue Skills

  • Teaching Practice

Customer Reviews For This Course

Nigel Stephenson

Really pleased with my week at PYB. The coaches did a great job of supplementing the 'How to coach' focus of the Level 2 training with some excellent sessions on 'What to coach'.

I'm not a great fan of the BCU/UKCC approach, and considered stopping coaching after the level 1. I think its really important that coaches understand what they're teaching .

Having had a few days to digest the experience, I'm confident that that I'm more equipped than ever to deliver some good quality coaching. I'm really looking forward to the next season.

I'm really pleased I chose this course and thank my club (North Avon) for helping to fund the experience. A definite 11/10!

PS food and accommodation weren't bad either ;-)
