The Fast Track Instructor Scheme

Our 4 month intensive instructor development programme allows you to fast-track your training in adventure sports, building the knowledge, skills and experience to launch a successful career in the outdoor sector. We have run the Fast Track Instructor Scheme for over 10 years and have a strong track record of developing the talent that now shapes the sector – from professional instructors working all over the world to those in senior positions within governing bodies, expedition companies or managing outdoor centres.

The best way to find out more is to attend one of our Open Days. You can find more information here.

The Fast Track scheme is aimed at those with some or minimal outdoor skills, immersing yourself in a rich learning environment to get you ‘work’ ready. Key features of the scheme include:

  • Attainment of a range of NGB awards, vital for your license to practice. You will receive training that covers walking, climbing, mountaineering, paddle sports and mountain biking. Examples of awards up for grabs include Summer Mountain Leader, British Canoeing Level and British Cycling Level 2 in Mountain Bike Leadership Training
  • Qualifications in First Aid and safeguarding training. In addition you will attend the   Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Assessor training course.
  • Mentorship over the 4 months. There’s more to great instructors that qualification attainment. You will consider how to best engage with different client groups and consider the softer kills you need to hone to ensure when working as an instructor your groups have a great time in the outdoors. Plus you’ll be introduced to some of the business skills which would allow you to start a career as a professional in the outdoor industry.
  • Instruction from some of the best instructors in the business, being exposed to a wide range of delivery styles and approaches.
  • A 4 month base right in the heart of Snowdoina.  You can paddle, bike, walk and climb all from your base without the need for transport. This maximizes your opportunity to gain quality development in the best training environment in the UK. And of course you can use this base to spend time with friends and family beyond your formal commitments.
  • Use of a wide range of top quality kit and equipment and we have arranged preferential rates from our trade sponsors if you decide to invest in your own gear.
  • Comfortable ensuite suite rooms. You are fully catered 7 days a week, with a great choice of nutritious meals.
  • Access free of charge to all the sports facilities at the National Centre – including the gym, indoor climbing and bouldering walls, bike pump track and rolling pool.
  • Opportunity to mix with some really cool customers, coaches and industry leaders. As you’d expect from a National Centre, we have some really interesting clients coming to train, be assessed or attend symposiums and conferences. This means you’ll be exposed to a really rich and unqiue learning environment.
  • Ability to bank up to 10 days of training and assessment time after your course finishes. You can come back within a 12 month period and undertake more training, get assessed or simply refresh your skills. These credits allow you to learn at your own pace and be assessed when you’re ready.
  • Who is the course aimed at?  Those wishing a career in the industry. Those leaving education, career changers, teachers, ex miliary.
  • What’s not included? Insurance, the cost of joining professional bodies and registration for qualifications.
