The BCU are currently redesigning the national coaching awards for canoeing and kayaking in the UK. At the time of publication detailed syllabuses are not available. Full details of our new courses will be available on our web site (www.pyb.co.uk) Details of Syllabuses will be available on the BCU web site (www.bcu.org.uk)
Prospective candidates may choose to make accredited prior learning requests directly to the BCU which should be completed prior to the course.

| How do you gain a BCU Coaching qualification? |
Stage 1:
Contact your appropriate governing body (BCU, WCA, CANI, SCA (click here for details) to obtain copies of the relevant syllabuses and registration form.
Stage 2:
Complete the registration form for the appropriate level of qualification, enclose photocopies of your prerequisites and return to the governing body. ( allow 14 days to process)
Stage 3:
Attend the training course, bring with you the registration form and the originals of your prerequisites. You must complete stages 1 and 2 before attending the course. Your registration form will be returned to the governing body, your training recorded on the database and your form returned to you having been approved for you to proceed to assessment.
Stage 4:
Attend the assessment course, bringing your registration form. |

This is the first level course for people wishing to become a paddlesports coach.
The course covers all elements of the syllabus. Including the foundation safety and rescue test. Students on the course will leave able to operate under direct supervision or under remote supervision depending on experience and aptitude.
Students should have the 2 star award (old 2 star kayak AND 2 star canoe acceptable). Student MUST register with the BCU and complete parts of the coach level 1 workbook that they will receive prior to the course.
following the course a personalised action plan will be designed and administration forwarded to the BCU who will issue licences following a successful CRB check.

This 2 day training course is for existing (old scheme) BCU Level 2 coaches. It provides a route for them to enter into the new BCU UKCC scheme. For those candidates holding the prerequisites and who have registered with the BCU the course will provide you with the additional tools to plan and deliver a series of progressive paddlesport coaching sessions in multiple disciplines. The course will cover all aspects of the syllabus including coaching styles, observation and analysis, designing, delivering, evaluating and reviewing coaching sessions. It also includes time to practice coaching and will help you produce an action plan for your assessment. As our course is held over 2 days you will also have time to complete an additional Continued Personal Development (CPD) unit. |

This 5 day course forms part of the third level of the BCU UKCC coaching pathway. During the course you will cover all the necessary components of the 3 day BCU UKCC level 3 core syllabi which includes the management of a safe and effective coaching environment, designing and delivering coaching within an annual programme, developing motor and cognitive skills. In addition to this core module we will also be covering two of the one day Intermediate Supporting Module. The Core Module and the Intermediate Supporting Modules are generic courses for all paddlesport disciplines and they precede the two day discipline specific module. Candidates for this course need to meet the BCU registration requirements and have registered with them.
This is an award for individuals with a degree of personal paddling skills and who intend to coach from a canoe, kayak or the waters edge. To be considered a boat based coach you must be an accomplished paddler with a minimum 3 Star competence. (Applicants for Level 3 training must have a 4* award (New Syllabi) prior to attending the applied discipline specific training element of overall level 3 training). In addition you will have completed all the training aspects of the BCU UKCC level 2 award or have successfully APL'd.
