The Low Ropes Challenge

Perfect for all ages, our new purpose-built low ropes course encourages communication and co-operation, helping individuals build their confidence whilst developing their balance and co-ordination. Each challenge calls on the collective contributions of every team member – drawing on their ideas, support, and effort to achieve a team goal.
With each exercise low to the ground, our low ropes course blends subtly into the forest environment, giving your group the chance to experience the tranquillity of this woodland setting combined with the overall remote mountain environment and breathtaking views that Plas y Brenin has to offer.
Whilst the underlying focus is on personal development, teambuilding and group dynamics our staff go out of their way to make sure these activities are creative, action packed, exciting but above all – fun.
Each challenge takes around thirty minutes to complete which is why our staff will work with you to select the correct combination of challenges for your group depending upon age, physical ability and your objectives for the session.

Chasm Crossing
This element calls for patience, planning and co-operation as your group devises a way to travel from one platform to another without touching the ground Using only two planks (neither of which is long enough to bridge the gap alone) the solution is not as simple as it first appears.

Mohawk Walk
Success in this unusual problem relies your group’s ability to communicate effectively and work together. The aim is to move from start to finish along a series of tautly strung cables between trees, using a combination of hand ropes and suspended ‘vines’ to maintain balance. To generate additional excitement and group interaction your group may be asked to carry an object or members of the group might make the walk blindfolded.

Blind Trail
Instilling an important sense of trust and co-operation, your group are encouraged to work together to navigate their way through a series of obstacles whilst blindfolded. Perhaps the ultimate test of trust and co-operation, this is a real ‘eye-opener’ for many of our visitors.

Low Beam
Standing on a narrow beam your group have to rearrange themselves in a different order (e.g. tallest at one end and shortest at the other) without touching the ground. Changing places where space is limited requires teamwork, concentration and effective communication.

Spider’s Web
To successfully complete this task your group must pass through various shaped holes in a human-sized spider’s web without touching any of the web strands. Once an opening is used, that opening is then closed to the rest of your group. This challenge requires a great deal of cooperation, trust, and "start to finish" planning to enable your team to successfully complete the challenge.

All Aboard
Using only a suspended rope to cross a 4-8 metre gap from one platform to the other, the main objective is for each of your team to swing between the platforms without touching the ground. As success depends on every team member remaining on the landing platform until the last person has arrived, what initially seems a simple task soon becomes a desperate struggle for balance and space, calling for coordinated teamwork.

Wild Woosey
Two members of your group physically and mentally support one another as they attempt to traverse the length of two diverging cables tautly strung between three trees. This challenge provides an excellent opportunity for the group to encourage and advise each other as they attempt the task.
