The Mountain Training Trust

Run by the Mountain Training Trust (MTT), on behalf of the Sports Council, Plas y Brenin has a unique management structure.
The MTT was set up as a registered charity in 1997 by the British Mountaineering Council, the Mountain Leader Training Board and the United Kingdom Mountain Training Board with one aim - to provide the best possible outdoor opportunities at the most cost effective price. These opportunities extend to all mountain enthusiasts from hillwalkers and climbers to mountaineers and paddlers alike. As a visitor to Plas y Brenin you can benefit from the MTT’s commitment in many ways. You can enjoy excellent instruction at the lowest rate possible, use the facilities or hire equipment, hold club meetings, annual dinners or conferences, or attend evening lectures and international symposiums. But most importantly, whether you’re a novice or an expert, if you’re devoted to the outdoors you’ll always find Plas y Brenin and the Mountain Training Trust willing to help.

Aside from managing Plas y Brenin, the Mountain Training Trust supports the outdoors in an increasing number of areas. Subsidised training schemes have been set up to ensure those in positions of responsibility and leadership roles in the outdoors get the training they need and deserve. Organisations who have benefited from the subsidised schemes include the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Scout Association. In addition, the MTT supports numerous environmental projects, helping to make outdoor enthusiasts aware of their responsibility to look after the mountains. The Trust also manages several bursaries which contribute to the training and experience of young climbers and regularly organises conferences, international meets and symposiums for outdoor enthusiasts. The MTT also supports local youth groups and helping to introduce many young people to mountain activities by providing otherwise unobtainable outdoor training opportunities.
As a charity the Mountain Training Trust is dedicated to re-channelling any surplus funds into vital projects like these.
