Before the Centre Assistant scheme I had just completed my second year at University studying Outdoor Leadership at UCLan, where I got my first taste for the outdoors. When I found out that I had got accepted onto the scheme, it was an opportunity that I simply could not let pass and so I have a taken a year out from university! Having been here for just four months I have already learnt much more than I imagined, by being able to shadow world class instructors and being surrounded by people who are always keen to get out and get stuff done! So far I have got my 3 star sea kayak and have my SPA and Summer ML assessments this October. To date the CA scheme has been an amazing experience, and I still have 11 months left to get better at climbing and kayaking, as well as broadening my qualifications. I hope to one day work for Plas y Brenin as an instructor and there is no better way to get a proper feel for the centre than becoming a CA. It is definitely a worthwhile job for any aspirant outdoor instructor!
