I'm a centre assistant at Plas y Brenin.
Being a centre assistant (CA) basically means living and breathing Plas y Brenin for 15 months, and although this can be full on it is no bad thing!
The chance to mingle with likeminded people has been truly amazing. The scheme has given me the opportunity immerse myself into the natural beauty that Snowdonia has to offer, whether this be swimming, biking, running and or just exploring there is always something to do and somewhere new to enjoy. Moving to this area has truly been a revelation. There is an energy and enthusiasm, which is quite contagious. If one is willing to dip their foot in they are quickly sucked into the torrent of climbing, biking, boating and all round adventure that characterises this place.
Having graduated with a degree in outdoor leadership I was desperate for an opportunity to conceptualise my theoretical knowledge on a practical basis. The CA scheme offers the perfect opportunity to do this. The range of opportunities are unparalleled and the variety of experiences beyond description. Already I have learnt so much, a lot of which I didn't realise I didn't know. Both the other CA's and the instructional staff are a huge help, they are always keen to get out, explore and have an adventure. Moreover everyone is happy to offer support, give advice and share professional practice, traits which truly make it a pleasurable environment to work in.
