I have been a Centre Assistant for 4 months now whilst also completing a degree in Outdoor Leadership. The CA scheme has allowed me to put all the theory into practice whilst working alongside some of the best instructors in the country. Before starting the scheme I was working towards completing my ML, SPA and level 1 qualifications and I know have the opportunity to hone my skills in each discipline by attending and shadowing training courses prior to assessment.
I consider myself a rock climber, however, I understand the importance of having a well-rounded set of skills in the outdoor industry and being based in the heart of Snowdonia gives me the chance develop as an instructor, leader and coach. The on-site training facilities, close proximity to world class venues and the chance to train with world class professionals has meant that my climbing has progressed further in the past few months compared to the previous 2 years.
I still have a year left of the CA scheme and plan on making the most of every opportunity I am given. The experience and qualifications gained during my time at Plas y Brenin combined with my degree should put me in a great position to start a career in the outdoor industry. Bring on the adventures!
