Carlo Forte's Profile

Area of responsibility

Chief Instructor

Significant outdoor qualifications

  • Mountaineering Instructor Certificate
  • International Mountain Leader

Area of work at Plas y Brenin

My primary role is to manage and support the Instructor team in our course delivery and to oversee and ensure that we deliver a safe and inspiring program of courses for everyone. I am very fortunate to work with a great team Instructors, all of whom share a passion for the outdoors, adventure and an enthusiasm to pass this on to others. Whilst my day to day role is predominantly management focused I am directly involved with the delivery of many aspects of our work throughout the year such as Mountain Training schemes, film and safety work as well as technical advice for many other organisations.

Sporting highlights

Many of my sporting highlights have involved being in the mountains, undertaking journeys and expeditions to both remote and accessible places in the world. The greatest memories are always of sharing trips with good friends and the sometimes funny situations you find yourself in. These have included regular climbing trips to the Alps and places throughout Europe, expeditions to Greenland, Patagonia and Borneo

Favourite destination

Anywhere in Italy especially if mountains are involved. Diversity of landscape, good weather (generally!), it goes without saying amazing food and coffee plus the best gelato in the world!

I have always been passionate about sport and especially by being outdoors. I enjoy a wide variety of activities whether it's climbing, walking, cycling or paddling and I'm equally a fan of more main stream sports especially those involving bats and balls! For me it's about the enjoyment of doing these activities with friends and family which provides the greatest memories. Having trained as a teacher I am most inspired about passing on knowledge to others and watching them progress with my help. Having said all this the thing that inspires me most is watching my daughters enjoy sport and the outdoors as much as I do.
