Area of work at Plas y Brenin
Being multi disciplined I work within the paddlestport, mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking departments. My work at Plas Y Brenin ranges from delivering at grass routes level right up to working on National Governing body Courses. Whether it's Advanced white water coaching or introducing people to outdoor sports for the first time, I enjoy it all. As well as working on our courses at Plas Y Brenin, I'm also involved with our Fast Track programme as well as delivering on the University of Central Lancashire's outdoor leadership and adventure sports coaching degrees.
My highlights include any time that I've had fun, had an adventure, learned something and scared myself a little. I've had plenty of these here in north wales and other parts of the UK, but here's some of the more exotic ones:
- A month tour of Europe encompassing climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and alpine mountaineering visiting - Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France. Great multi activity trip.
- Two week trip to Uganda white water kayaking on the White Nile River.
- Two week trip to India mentioned below.
- A month long trip to Nepal kayaking and trekking.
I have visited to many places around the globe in pursuit of adventure. My favourite has to be an expedition to North East India on a 5 day self supported kayak trip on a river called the Siang/Brahmaputra. The remoteness, people we met along the way, the big volume white water as well as the company all add up to make for a good trip. A slight epic also made it memorable!
Living in Snowdonia and working at Plas y Brenin, you are never far from an inspiring place to go and do something in the outdoors, an inspirational person who is psyched to have the next adventure. This coupled with my curiosity to know what is around the next corner makes for an inspiring combination.
Team Below and Beyond of which I am the most recent edition to are heading to Peru in May 2015 on a three week kayak expedition. We have two rivers in mind to attempt first decants of. Both are remote jungle gorges. They start high in the mountains, flowing off the Altiplano at about 5000m. we will trek down the river until it becomes paddlable and paddle as much of it as is possible. We will also throw in some mountain biking in on this trip for good measure.
