Wear A Helmet

By Mike Raine

To some people wearing a helmet may seem like an 'uncool' thing to do but there are more very good reasons to wear one than you think. Here are a few of my tips on helmets

Avoid Pain and Injury

Wear A Helmet

A helmet will protect you from impact during a fall as well as stonefall.

It's Not Just Rocks

More than stones can fall down crags! Look out for cams, nut keys and car keys flying through the air aiming for you head.

Keep A Lid On It

Wear A Helmet

Don't sit anywhere near the bottom of the crag without a helmet on, especially if you face away from the rock to admire the view. Goats, sheep and the wind can cause rock fall as well as people.

Be Cool

A reflective light coloured helmet can actually help to keep your head cool under summer sun.

Warm Up Effectively

Wear A Helmet

Make sure you buy a helmet which can easily be adjusted so that you can wear a woolly hat underneath it on cold days.

Be Careful

Be careful how you extract some of the lighter helmets from your rucksack, the lighter ones can actually be snapped by pulling sideways on them.

You''ll Hardly Notice You're Wearing It

Wear A Helmet

Modern helmets are so light, adjustable and comfortable, there is really very little reason not to wear one.
