Our unique position in the heart of the mountains yet a short drive from the rugged coastline of Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula, allows us tremendous flexibility. Our location at the heart of North Wales is world renowned for walking, climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking and sea kayaking. Wherever you turn there are great adventures to be had, breathtaking views to be seen, and amazing wildlife to be observed.
What's more, because our guides, instructors and coaches know the area so well, they are tuned in to using each distinctive activity venue to make sure you get the most from your stay with us. They are used to reacting to individual aspirations and expectations, ability, experience, weather conditions, and the forecast to choose the perfect venue every time.
There are climbing venues with over 12 different rock types within a few minutes drive of Plas y Brenin. Allowing us to ensure you enjoy an amazing variety of climbing.
Plas y Brenin is only 2 hours by road from Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. Just an hour from Holyhead ferry terminal and only 40 minutes drive from Llandudno Junction railway station which is well connected with all major rail routes across the UK.
Our coaches work as consultants to a wide range of National Governing Bodies helping to develop their leadership and coaching qualification schemes and their safety procedures. As well as in the UK, recently their work has taken them as far afield as Austria, Iran, Cyprus, Kenya and Chile.
Our coaching and instructional team includes many of the most experienced and accomplished outdoor athletes in the UK. But sporting achievement alone doesn't guarantee a place on our staff line-up. We insist that our coaches understand people. We look for coaches who know how to tailor every experience to make sure our guests feel confident and safe - yet challenged. As one of Sport England's three National Sports Centres, our sporting facilities are truly world class. For climbers we have two indoor climbing walls, complete with an 11m leading tower and auto belay system. For mountain bikers, we offer a purpose built skills course, a pump track, bike-repair workstations, secure storage and bike-wash facilities.
Paddlers can enjoy a huge selection of the latest kayaks, sea kayaks and canoes to try out from our paddlesport demo fleet and an indoor heated rolling pool with video analysis facilities. On top of all that we have a number of orienteering courses, a purpose built abseil tower and a challenging low ropes course, which makes a superb activity for developing team understanding and leadership. We also have a fully equipped gym and an artificial ski slope on site.
Underpinning all of our activities is our equipment stores, which is piled high with all the latest equipment, all of which is free for you to use on your course or holiday.
Whatever holiday or course you come on, you are welcome to use any of our sporting facilities free of charge in the evenings.
Our accommodation and hospitality are unrivalled in the outdoor industry. Hotel standard, en-suite bedrooms complete with comfy bed, flat screen TV, and desk means you'll feel completely at home on your stay with us. Amongst a wide range of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, our bar stocks our own range of locally brewed real ales. Specially brewed to sooth tired and aching limbs, Brenin Ales make the ideal end to a perfect day in the outdoors.
Every day when our guests come down from the hill, back from the crag or in off the water, we serve up freshly baked home-made cakes and hot tea or coffee. Just the thing to keep you going until dinner.
The bar and dining room are is equipped with free wifi, so you can stay in touch, posting photos and comments that will make your friends green with envy.
Plas y Brenin has a unique management structure. Since 1997 the Mountain Training Trust (MTT) has been managed by Plas y Brenin on behalf of Sport England.
The MTT was set up as a registered charity in 1997 by the British Mountaineering Council, Mountain Training England and Mountain Training UK with one aim - to provide the best possible outdoor opportunities at the most cost effective price.
These opportunities extend to all mountain enthusiasts hillwalkers, climbers, mountaineers, mountain bikers and paddlers alike. As a visitor to Plas y Brenin you can benefit from the MTT's commitment in many ways. You can enjoy excellent training and assessment courses at the lowest rate possible, use the facilities or hire equipment, hold club meetings, annual dinners or conferences, or attend evening lectures and international symposiums.
