I have been working in the outdoor industry for 20 years, in a wide variety of coaching environments. I can often be found floating around in a sea kayak off the amazing Anglesey coastline, but I also love spending time on the rivers and lakes in a kayak, canoe or more recently on a SUP. I have a real passion for coach and leader development and love working with new and experienced paddlers alike to help them achieve their goals.
In 2019 I completed a Masters degree in Sports Coaching. This was both an enriching experience and a huge challenge. What I enjoyed the most was the opportunity to learn and develop my coaching practice and to increase my knowledge and understanding of the theoretical underpinnings, which was invaluable in my delivery of British Canoeing coach education and leadership qualifications. I was also grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Plas y Brenin’s Director of Learning and Development Dr Loel Collins on a joint academic paper that was published later that year.
My qualifications include:
- British Canoeing Level 4 Inland Kayak
- British Canoeing Advanced Sea Kayak Leader
- British Canoeing Level 3 Sea Kayak Coach.
- British Canoeing Moderate Water Canoe Coach
- Mountain Leader
- Rock Climbing Instructor
- PGCE Physical Education
- MA Sports Coaching
I have never had the opportunity to be part of a classic Canadian wilderness canoe trip so this is definitely on the to-do list.
A little closer to home I just want to get a year of uninterrupted paddling and access to the outdoors.
