On this two day programme, you'll cover the paddling, leadership and safety skills necessary to prepare you for your Advanced White Water Leader Assessment. We've designed it specifically to meet the training requirements for this award. You'll also be equipped with a personalised action plan, designed to help you reach your goal of a successful assessment.
The aim at this level is that you'll show the personal skill level, leadership, ability and judgement to lead paddlers with a range of experience, up to and including advanced white water. You'll be able to select appropriate environments for paddlers with a range of experience.

What to Expect
The course will make the best use of the weather and water levels to ensure that we maximise conditions. You can expect to spend one day on Grade 3 white-water and one day/night on advanced open water.
·Some experience of paddling in advanced White-water conditions.
·Competent Grade III paddler with some experience of Grade IV.
·A reliable moving water roll.
·Hold the White Water Kayak leaders award
Have attended the Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue training course

When it comes to equipment, at Plas y Brenin we have a wide range of top-quality kit for you to use, all included in your course fee. This means if you’re just starting out, there’s no need to rush out and buy a load of expensive gear, and if you’re already pretty well kitted-out, it’s a great chance to try something new.
We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal - you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified, staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. What's more, you'll have access to our extensive range of paddling equipment and clothing to use whilst honing your chosen skills. This gives you the perfect opportunity to test out that new piece of kit you've had your eye on. You just bring yourself, your 'can do' attitude, and determination to achieve excellence.
All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear under a wetsuit and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have an extensive selection of different styles of canoes and kayaks from a range of manufacturers. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new if you'd like to. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring along your own kit.We have rescue dry suits available for these elements of the training but if you have your own we would advise you to bring it along.
You'll need to make sure you're fit enough for two challenging days on advanced water, and have kayaked regularly before attending.
