This is a one day course aimed at people who are new to riding mountain bikes. Our friendly, highly qualified instructors will help you to develop good technical riding habits right from the start, which will make all the difference in the long term, plus we'll ensure your bike is set up right for you so that you can spend a full day on the bike.
You'll spend the day making use of our purpose-built skills course and some of the local mountain bike trails, which include some of the finest mountain biking routes in Britain, with world class single track routes. The Gwydyr Forest trails and the Penmachno trails are right outside our back door. Other classic trails at Coed y Brenin and Coed Llandegla are only a short drive from our centre.
You'll learn the fundamental skills and good technical habits to give you the right foundation to build on and progress in your new sport.

When it comes to equipment, at Plas y Brenin we have a wide range of top-quality kit for you to use, all included in your course fee. This means if you’re just starting out, there’s no need to rush out and buy a load of expensive gear, and if you’re already pretty well kitted-out, it’s a great chance to try something new.
As both your body and mind will be working hard whilst you're with us, we want to help you focus on achieving the goal you've set yourself. So if you're staying with us, comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and home-cooked meals are part of the deal, you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified staff, to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development.
You should bring your own MTB plus your regular MTB equipment and clothing, helmet etc. You can hire a mountain bike locally and arrange for it to be delivered to our base in time for the start of your course.
Spend some time on a bike to get comfortable with riding and build some basic riding fitness.
