You've decided you like kayaking. Now it's time to experience racing down the face of a surf wave, bouncing down a rapid and running a tide race. Over five fun-packed white water days days, we'll introduce you to all the techniques you need to handle a boat in the exciting wild water of British rivers and sea. You'll also be introduced to Eskimo rolling and we guarantee you'll have plenty of opportunity to develop your cold water roll!! All our staff are qualified and experienced coaches with infectious enthusiasm for these activities. They are experienced in teaching at all levels and most importantly, they have lots of experience helping you to choose the level of adventure that's right for you. Small groups allow us to give you individual attention.
You'll consolidate your existing skills and gain loads of confidence and experience on white water and surf.

What to Expect
You'll start the week our heated training pool and at local venues with our coaches helping you to consolidate your existing skills. We'll then travel to canoeing locations around North Wales for coaching and training on white water, sea and surf skills. The following is a list of the canoeing techniques we aim to cover;

You should be a confident flat water paddler with the ability to manoeuvre your craft with ease.

If your course is based at Plas y Brenin, the residential price includes accommodation for the night before, and the duration of your time here. If you’re staying with us, we also provide delicious meals to keep you going as you learn, meaning you can concentrate on enjoying yourself. We may also be able to arrange a transfer from Llandudno Junction train station, subject to availability. We would need a minimum of one week’s notice prior to your course start date – please contact reception to learn more.
When it comes to equipment, at Plas y Brenin we have a wide range of top-quality kit for you to use, all included in your course fee. This means if you’re just starting out, there’s no need to rush out and buy a load of expensive gear, and if you’re already pretty well kitted-out, it’s a great chance to try something new.
We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal - you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified, staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. What's more, you'll have access to our extensive range of paddling equipment and clothing to use whilst honing your chosen skills. You just bring yourself, your 'can do' attitude, and determination to achieve excellence.
All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear, and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a wide range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have an extensive selection of kayaks from a range of manufacturers. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring your own kit.
To get the most from the week you should paddled recently, and you'll need to be fit enough for 5 days of activity.
