This is a one day assessment course as part of the third level certificate in coaching paddlesports. To succeed, you'll show that you can manage a safe and effective coaching environment, and have developed the skills and knowledge needed to deliver coaching within an annual programme, developing motor skills and developing cognitive skills.
To be successful, you'll demonstrate that you meet the criteria for the Performance Coach Award, by displaying the relevant personal skills and appropriate leadership, safety and rescue skills.

What to Expect
You'll deliver two coaching sessions of 60-90 minutes each. The majority of these sessions will be in moderate water conditions. In addition you will need to display personal skills and appropriate leadership, safety and rescue skills.
You'll have completed British Canoeing Performance Coach Core training, British Canoeing Performance Coach Discipline Specific training in your chosen discipline. You should also have completed eight hours first aid training and all other outstanding portfolio tasks.

When it comes to equipment, at Plas y Brenin we have a wide range of top-quality kit for you to use, all included in your course fee. This means if you’re just starting out, there’s no need to rush out and buy a load of expensive gear, and if you’re already pretty well kitted-out, it’s a great chance to try something new.
As it is an assessment we would expect you to be self-sufficient for equipment. However, we have an extensive fleet of canoes and kayaks, so if you're travelling some distance, we can provide you with one.
You should bring your personal paddling kit. Waterproof note pads, and a means of capturing images may be useful.
Prior to the practical assessment must submit your portfolio of evidence. You'll need to have gained lots of coaching experience and reflective practice. should treat the assessment as just another coaching session in a long-term programme. You can also bring your own long-term students if you wish.
