You'll need to show the personal skill level and leadership ability required to lead a group of up to four paddlers in moderate sea conditions by applying a variety of techniques appropriate for sea kayaking. A successful candidate will be able to evaluate a group of paddlers to establish whether a particular trip is suitable to their level of performance or choose alternatives. The emphasis is on the application of a variety of techniques appropriate for sea kayaking, requiring the paddler to perform appropriate and effective manoeuvres in real situations.

The Objectives

To succeed, you'll demonstrate that you can evaluate and lead a group of paddlers to establish whether a particular trip is suitable to their level of performance, or choose alternatives.

Itinerary

* Please note: Itinerary is subject to weather and availability.

What to Expect

You'll spend day one leading a group of suitable paddlers on a sea kayak journey along a section of the local coastline. You'll be expected to play a key role in making the decision on location. You're expected to deal effectively with any incidents on the journey. On day two you'll be assessed on any outstanding elements that weren't observed on day one.

Experience Required

You need to have completed Sea Kayak Leader training and the Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning module.

Leading others on the sea requires a broad skill set. Show us that yours is sufficient to lead effectively.

Adam Harmer

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so if you're staying with us, comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal, you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified staff, to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. As this is an assessment, you're expected to be self-sufficient for equipment (access to our extensive range is the norm on our courses for future reference). However, we have an extensive fleet of sea kayaks, so if you're travelling some distance, we can provide you with one.
