Bookings

The easiest way to book a course with us is through the website.

There are certain situations when online booking is not possible – more information is given below. You can download a copy of our Booking Form here.

  • How do I book?

You can book a place on a course online via our website www.pyb.co.uk and securely pay in full by credit/debit card. The first time you make a booking you will need to register on the site and create an account. Then simply find the course and date you wish to go on and choose ‘Book Now’. If you are a returning customer you will just need to log into your account to proceed with a booking.

If the course date you are booking is more than six weeks away and you would like to pay a deposit rather than full payment please call us during office hours Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.30pm and we will take your booking over the phone. Alternatively, you can complete and return a Plas y Brenin booking form by post or email to bookings@pyb.co.uk indicating on the form under the Fees section that you wish to pay a deposit only. If posting back to us a cheque made payable to Mountain Training Trust can be included with the booking form.

If using a gift voucher to make full or part payment towards a course please print off and complete a Plas y Brenin booking form. You can post this back to us with the original gift voucher or scan both the booking form and gift voucher and e-mail it to bookings@pyb.co.uk

If your company or school wish to pay for your course please print off and complete a Plas y Brenin booking form. Either return this by post or e-mail it to bookings@pyb.co.uk with an official purchase order or letter on headed paper signed by somebody in authority detailing who the course is for, the course title, date and full course fee. We will then book you on to the course subject to availability and invoice your company or school for the full amount. We can only invoice for course dates more than six weeks away and for the full course fee.

If you work for Jaguar Land Rover and have an ELS Credit Voucher for full or part payment of the non-residential element of a course please complete a Plas y Brenin booking form and either return this by post or e-mail to bookings@pyb.co.uk with your ELS credit voucher. We will then book you on the course subject to availability and invoice Jaguar Land Rover ELS for the amount stated on the Credit Voucher. We will then contact you for any additional course fees and/or to take payment if you wish the course to be residential.

  • Do I need to pay upfront?

If making a booking via our website and for course start dates less than 6 weeks away full payment is required at time of booking. If the start date of the course is more than 6 weeks away you can just pay a non-refundable £80.00 deposit (£200.00 for courses more than 10 days in duration) by calling, e-mailing or posting a completed booking form to us. The balance of payment will become due 6 weeks prior to the course commencement date.

  • Will I receive a booking confirmation?

Once your booking has been completed and payment taken, you will receive a confirmation email. This will also include general information and paperwork specific to the course you have booked. Information regarding our Terms and Conditions of booking is also included so please ensure you are familiar with this.

  • Can I change my booking?

If the start date of your course is more than 6 weeks away you can transfer your booking to an alternative currently advertised date or course for a £25 administration fee.

For course dates less than 6 weeks away, a change in booking will be treated as a cancellation and the following fees will apply:

    • Loss of deposit up to 4 weeks prior to the start date of the course.

    • 75% of the total fee where cancellation takes place less than 4 weeks but more than 2 weeks before the course start date.

    • 100% of the total fee where cancellation takes place within 2 weeks of the start date of the course or where cancellation takes place on or after the start date of the course.

  • Can someone take my place on the course?

  • I need to cancel my course, what should I do?

We have spacious drying rooms, which you can use to dry any climbing, paddling, biking or walking kit at the end of each day, so it will be ready for action the next day.

  • I am not sure which course is the most suitable for me. What should I do?

If after reading the course information on our website you are still unsure as to which course is the most suitable for you, please contact the Centre to talk to one of our instructors. Our instructors spend most of their time out on courses so might not be available immediately, but if you leave your name and a daytime contact number one of them will call you back.

  • How fit do I need to be?

As a general rule, the fitter you are the more you will get out of your course. Our winter courses are particularly demanding and consequently require higher levels of fitness. We can accommodate varying degrees of fitness within our programme but we do reserve the right to curtail participation or in (rare) extreme cases, we may ask you to withdraw from activities if we feel your lack of fitness is causing excessive difficulties for you or other course members. If you are unsure, please give us a call for advice.

  • What should I bring with me?

A recommended list of what to bring with you for each course can be found on the specific course page on our website.

All technical equipment can be borrowed from our stores department at no extra cost. Your course director will take you to stores on the first morning of the course to sort out anything you need to borrow.

Please note that for most assessments you are expected to have your own equipment.

  • Can I bring my own equipment?

You are very welcome to bring and use your own equipment, but please note that you bring and use it at your own risk and we cannot accept any responsibility for any damage or loss to your equipment, howsoever caused. We have got secure storage for bikes and boats.

  • Do I need Insurance?

We have Professional indemnity insurance but would always recommend that you purchase your own personal accident insurance (including cancellation insurance) for all U.K. based courses. It is a small cost to give peace of mind and to protect against any monetary loss, should you have to cancel your place on a course for reasons beyond your control.

For all overseas courses, you must purchase specialist rescue, medical and repatriation insurance. The following companies provide appropriate mountaineering insurance:

    British Mountaineering Council www.thebmc.co.uk 0870 010 4878

    Snowcard Insurance Services www.snowcard.co.uk 01327 262 805
