Pete Catterall has been with Plas y Brenin for 16 years, and heads up the Paddlesport and Mountain Biking departments.

Pete has paddled and ridden all over the world and has been involved in the writing and deployment of both British Canoeing and British Cycling national awards.

Being out on the water coaching people in all disciplines of paddlesport or coaching on some of Snowdonia’s amazing MTB trails is what keeps Pete enjoying his job!

Qualifications

  • British Canoeing Level 5 White Water Kayak Coach

  • British Canoeing Level 4 Sea Kayak Coach

  • British Canoeing Level 4 Canoe Coach

  • British Canoeing White Water Safety & Rescue and Advanced White Water Safety & Rescue Provider

  • British Cycling Trainer & Assessor for Level 2 and Level 3 Awards

Achievements

Pete has been working as an outdoor instructor full time since 1992. His work and play have taken him all over the world. Pete was Head Coach to the GB Freestyle Kayak team, where during his time the team took over 30 international medals. He has also made multiple first descents of rivers in India, Africa and South America. Pete has competed in the Premiere division in Kayak Slalom and more recently raced at the  Adidas Sickline World extreme championships in Austria.

Ambitions

This year Pete hopes to travel to Nepal to run a few of the classic multi-day whitewater kayak trips, as well as getting on the bike in as many places as possible!

Sickline has been cancelled in 2018, but Pete hopes to race there again when it returns in the near future!
