Plas y Brenin has announced the appointment of Dr Loel Collins as Director of Learning and Development, a new role for the Snowdonia-based centre.

Dr Collins brings a wealth of experience to the role, having taught in outdoor education and the National Centres in the UK for over thirty years. With a wide range of high-level UK governing body coaching and guiding qualifications, notably in canoeing/kayaking, free-heel skiing, mountaineering, rescue and emergency care, swift-water and mountain rescue, Dr Collins retains a strong professional and recreational interest in the outdoors.

The new role will see Dr Collins having overall responsibility for Plas y Brenin’s Sport Plan, which outlines how the centre will meet the needs of the next generation of instructors, leaders and coaches. Primarily focussing on the development of the programme, courses and staff, Dr Collins will work closely with instructors to ensure that all programmes are delivered in a modern and informed way.

Ruth Hall, Chief Executive at Plas y Brenin stated, “This is a hugely exciting time for the National Outdoor Centre and we are delighted that Dr Collins has joined our team. As one of the UK’s foremost experts in outdoor education, Loel will bring his knowledge and expertise from across the sector, to deliver a step-change in our provision. Combine this with his passion for the outdoors, Loel is ideally suited to help us grow an inclusive, valuable course program, and to continue PYB’s legacy as the gold standard in coaching, instruction and developing leaders in adventure sport.”

Plas y Brenin is the National Outdoor Centre and works closely with National Governing Bodies for sport to design, test, and deliver courses for outdoor and adventure sports professionals.
