Plas y Brenin are offering an alternative to the usual tens of thousands of Easter Weekend visitors to Snowdon and Snowdonia National Park.
People all over the UK are invited to walk the equivalent of a hike up Snowdon from their homes and their staircases – hiking boots optional – and share their experience on their own social channels with the hashtag #StaircaseSnowdon and tag in @plasybreninofficial on Instagram for the chance to win a real outdoor adventure weekend at Plas y Brenin.
A total of 4,610 steps are needed to complete the challenge with participants choosing whether they want to take it on individually or as part of a team. #StaircaseSnowdon is the perfect opportunity to get the whole family together, kids included, or digitally unite your friendship group as you share the steps between you. With social distancing in place, Plas y Brenin understand it’s hard to get in your recommended national daily allowance of 10,000 steps. Completing the challenge will help towards your daily count and keep you moving during these limiting times.
Ruth Hall, chief executive at Plas y Brenin stated, “We wanted to bring the spirit of Snowdonia and the outdoors to homes all over the UK during this difficult period and what better way to do it than through an at-home challenge over the long weekend. We know it’s tempting to get outdoors but we all have a shared responsibility to protect those around us and it’s more important than ever that people follow the guidelines and stay at home. That’s why we’re bringing the outdoors to you, so you can still feel connected and take pride in keeping your own families and the community safe.”
The winner, or winners, will receive a weekend experience at Plas y Brenin, choosing from a selection of climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and paddle sports to suit their experience level, and skill set.
Plas y Brenin is the National Outdoor Centre and works closely with National Governing Bodies for sport to design, test, and deliver courses for outdoor and adventure sports professionals. The centre delivers training and assessment courses to meet the needs of elite teams, Mountain Rescue organisations, emergency services, the military and lovers of the outdoors from all walks of life.
