Sid is one of our Senior Instructors here at Plas y Brenin. He delivers across much of our programme, both in the mountains and on our canoeing and kayaking courses. His specialist areas are Sea Kayaking, Open Canoeing and Coach and Leader education. He trains and assesses Coaches and Leaders at all levels.
As well as delivering on our programme, Sid has a specific focus on developing teaching and learning across all our departments and manages Paddlesport Qualifications, working closely with British Canoeing.
He says that watching people developing their skills and achieve their goals is what really motivates him – watching others succeed is the most rewarding part of his job.

Sid has paddled extensively around the UK, Europe and further afield. He has been on extended expeditions including 21 days self-contained sea kayaking and rock climbing in Greenland; a 16-day descent of the Mountain River in Canada’s NW territories; and whitewater kayaking in Siberia. His mountaineering ventures have taken him to the European Alps, Nepal and Canada.
Sid’s ambitions are to continue to study and undertake more expeditions. He’d love to undertaking an extended expedition with his wife and daughters, all of whom enjoy being in the great outdoors. Whilst he’s paddled a large part of the UK’s coast, he’d love to find time to paddle the bits he’s missed. He is currently studying for a Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance looking at improving adventure sports coach and leader education, which links his love of studying with his enjoyment in developing coaches and leaders.
